Two types of analyses:

• Transformation is of direct interest, the study of the factor effects if of secondary concern
• The main interest is in the factor effects, the choice of transformation is secondary.

Two basic problems for data analysis

• How to check that the data are not contaminated with rogue observations and what action to take if they are
• How to check that the model being used to analyze the data is substantially the right one.
